Good Shepherd Ministry Brochure

Altar Guild  This ministry is in charge of cleaning, washing and the placement of linens in the church in accordance with the various liturgical seasons. Email the Parish Office if you are interested in volunteering.

Altar Servers  This ministry is for young people, 4th grade and older, who have been baptized and who have received First Holy Communion.  As an Altar Server you would be trained to assist the Priest during the Sunday mass. To volunteer, call the parish office 432-6404.

Arts & Environment This ministry focuses on the inner beauty of the Church.  Volunteers are responsible for decorating the Church for the various liturgical seasons with banners, flowers, etc.  This ministry is most active during the Christmas and Easter Seasons. To volunteer, email Tammy Vo or call the parish office 432-6404

Baptismal Preparation  This ministry involves the teaching of a monthly class for parents and godparents as they prepare to baptize their child in the Catholic church.  The class teaches parents and godparents about their role and their responsibility in the Sacrament of Baptism.  This is a wonderful opportunity to welcome parents and children into our community! To volunteer, contact the parish office at 432-6404.

Bible Study  is also offered each Thursday evening in the ministry building from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM.  The Book of Genisis is currently being studied.  For more information contact Ben Davi at 439-9279

Bad Girls of the Bible meets each Tuesday nights at 7 pm.  For more information contact Patty Cadena at 439-3181.

Catholic Youth Organization Basketball (CYO)  This ministry provides the opportunity for young children to develop strong moral character, self worth, interpersonal competence and a commitment to caring for others and their community through activities of a social, educational and recreational nature through the team sport of basketball.  This program is for children from 3rd to 8th grade living in the City of Pittsburg.  Season runs from October  to January. To sign up a player or to volunteer to coach, contact Diane George at 432-3043.

Eucharistic Ministers  This ministry involves helping our Parish Priests in serving Holy Communion at our sacred liturgies.  This ministry is open to any adult who has received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirmation and who completes the necessary training. Call Bill & Ann Abitz for information 432-3995

Eucharistic Ministers to the Sick   This ministry brings Holy Communion to the home-bound and sick of our parish.  Requirements are the same as above but in this ministry you also must provide your own transportation to individual’s homes and care facilities. To volunteer, contact the Parish Office 925-432-6404

Ministry of Hospitality   This ministry attends masses early to meet and greet the people coming through the church doors.  Sometimes a friendly handshake or hello is enough and other times you will be needed to answer specific questions about the parish.  Ultimately the goal is to make all feel welcome. To volunteer, contact the parish office at 432-6404.

Ministry of Lector  The role of a lector is to clearly and prayerfully proclaim the Word of God at mass.  A lector must be properly trained and installed by a priest in order to serve in this ministry.  Participants must be baptized individuals who wish to participate more fully in the liturgical life of the parish. To volunteer, contact David DeLuna at 925-689-8585

Music Ministry  The goal of this ministry is to assist the worshiping community in song in order to foster a conscious and active participation in the liturgy through signing and the playing of musical instruments.  Regular attendance at rehearsals and liturgies is required! This ministry is open to people of all ages!  In order to volunteer please see our music director Rocco Enea or any music ministry person after any mass.

Pastoral Council This ministry acts as an advisory and consultative body to the Pastor.  Members meet with the Pastor regarding a wide array of topics in order to enhance the parish’s growth and development.  The Council meets on a monthly basis. For more information David DeLuna at 925-689-8585

Prayer Group for the Sick   This ministry is devoted to praying for the sick in our community.  We have a Book of the Sick in vestibule of the church that you can requests prayers. This ministry meets every Monday in the Parish Office Building from 11am-12noon.  If you are unable to come pray at that time, think about making this a holy hour to pray for the sick. You can always go to our Prayer Request Page and leave a request there.

Rite of Christian Initiation For Adults (RCIA)  This ministry provides introduction and instruction to the Catholic faith for the non-baptized, for those baptized in another faith or those returning Catholics needing to complete their sacraments. To help teach or to participate in RCIA as a student, contact Religious Education Office 432-6404 x 11.

Ministry of Stewardship   This ministry takes a lead in the development of programs that provide financial support to the parish as well as encourages parishioners to share their time & talents with the parish community.  Contact David DeLuna at 925-689-8585

Ministry of Ushers  This time honored ministry’s main goal is to accept the offerings of the faithful as well as to welcome them, seat them and guide them in receiving communion. To volunteer, contact Patty Cadena 439-3181 .
