Sacraments

Baptism

In order to make baptismal arrangements, parents are required to call the parish office to make an appointment with a Priest to fill out the paperwork and schedule a baptismal class (required of parents and godparents) and a baptismal date.  A meeting will not be scheduled unless the family of the child to be baptized is registered at Good Shepherd, regularly attends mass and demonstrates a history of contributions to the parish through the electronic giving program.

The fee for baptism is $80 and must be paid at the initial meeting with the priest.  This fee  includes the $75 sacramental fee and a $5 class material fee.

Penance & First Holy Communion

These two sacraments are administered through our Youth Formation Program if the candidate is under 18 years old or through the RCIA Program if the candidate is 18 years or older.  Please see the MINISTRY LINK for the appropriate program to receive more information on these two sacraments.

Confirmation

Please contact the Youth Formation link for information about Confirmation for high school students.

If you are an adult wishing to receive confirmation you would need to contact the RCIA ministry.

Marriage

Couples wishing to marry in the church are required to make arrangements at least six (6) months in advance of the date of marriage.  Initially the couple meets with a priest to discuss the intention to marry and to fill out the paperwork and pay the necessary fees.  The couple must also be willing to attend a marriage preparation program offered through the Diocese of Oakland.  One or both parties to the marriage must be registered members of Good Shepherd Church.  There is a wedding coordinator that helps in the planning and rehearsal of the ceremony.

Weddings are scheduled on Saturdays at 10 am or 1 pm depending on the schedule of the church.

An in initial deposit of $50 is due at the first meeting with the priest and the total fee for weddings is $400 (including deposit).

A social hall is available for rental for continuation of the celebration.  See the Facilities link for more information.

Annointing of the Sick

If you or a loved one or friend needs anointing of the sick before surgery, during an illness or for the dying, you need to call the parish office, 432-6404 and speak with a priest.  If you call after office hours, the voice mail will direct your call.  Please do not wait until the last minute to call for this sacrament, particularly in the case of a dying loved one.  The anointing of the sick cannot be administered once a person is deceased, but a priest can do prayers over the body.

Funerals

Funerals are arranged in cooperation with the family of the deceased who contacts the mortuary of their choice and then  the mortuary, family and church work together to plan and carry out the services.  A typical Christian burial consists of a Vigil Prayer Service, Holy Mass and Burial in a Catholic cemetery.  Any other type of requests should first be discussed with a priest.

A funeral reception may be requested in the parish hall depending on availability.  The mimum donation for hall usage for a funeral reception is $350 and includes the Diocesan required day use insurance fee.

Please request usage when meeting with the priest to plan the funeral.

Vocations

If you feel called to a religious vocation you should contact the parish who will guide you and put you in contact with our Pastor to further discern your call and answer your questions.

Quinceañeras

In order to schedule a Quinceañera at Good Shepherd Church, the family of the young woman turning 15 must be registered and contributing to the parish financially and the young woman herself must be part of the Youth Formation Program and preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation.  An appointment with a priest is needed to schedule the mass and begin preparation for the celebration.

The Quinceañera masses are scheduled on Saturdays at 10 am or 1 pm depending on the church calendar.

An in initial deposit of $50 is due at the first meeting with the priest and the total fee for quinceañeras is $400 (including deposit).
